Alligators All Around

On hikes throughout Florida’s numerous wetlands, rivers, swamps, and lakes it is not unusual for us to come across a wild alligator or two.  While alligators were endangered 50 years ago the population is now at 1.25 million. As the states most famous reptile they are also very popular tourism icons and made into many types of souvenir products from chocolate to jerky. Crocodiles are also found in Southern Florida near the coast while alligators are found all over the state.
