American Flags

One thing Americans have in common is the American flag. As our national symbol of identity to each person or group it offers diverse and complex meanings. To some it is woven into utopian ideals or pride. To others it represents activism, contradictions, or inequities. It is used to shine the light on the heroic efforts of the past and present. It can be seen in the critical context of art, in celebration or simply as a meaningful decoration. While traveling around the USA we saw the flag drive people apart, bring communities together or ask vital questions. What does the American flag mean to you?
