Greenburg, Decatur County, IN

Among rolling cornfields, halfway between Cincinnati and Indianapolis is the Victorian brick laden picturesque town of Greensburg. As the seat of Decatur County it is famous for the tree that grows to the roof its courthouse tower, several stories up. Greensburg’s central town square is surrounded by largely intact historic buildings that spread out in every direction.

The first settlers arrived to Greenburg on the Great National Road from Pennsylvania to the Ohio Valley and it later became a hub for railroad commerce. Agriculture, foundries, millineries, grocers, and many other businesses evolved as the town grew until it became a global leader in auto parts manufacturing. Today Greensburg is part of National Underground Railroad Network a federal project to connect historic sites, facilities, and programs associated with the Underground Railroad.
