The Alamo, located just a short distance from the Riverwalk, is a historic location with many stories to share. Originally a mission founded in the 18th century, the Alamo became famous as the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1836. This pivotal event in the Texas Revolution saw a small group of Texan defenders, including legendary figures like Davy Crockett and James Bowie, hold out against a much larger Mexican army. The cry "Remember the Alamo" became a rallying call for Texan independence. Today, the Alamo is a museum that gives visitors a chance to learn the Alamo’s role in Texas history through exhibits and educational programs.
