Today, the railroad offers scenic rides between Durango and Silverton, taking passengers on a journey through Colorado's stunning landscapes. The route winds from Durango along the Animas River, crosses trestle bridges, and offers panoramic views of rugged mountains, deep canyons, and lush forests. The trip is known to be worth the steep price however just watching the train entering and leaving town is an event not to be missed.
Silverton's historic district is filled with Old West charm with local artists woodcarvings on display.
