Starved Rock is a sandstone butte towering over the Illinois river. It is home to numerous falls, canyons, and hiking trails. The name comes from the legend of a battle where an Ottawa tribe trapped a contingent of the Illinois atop the rock and starved them until they surrendered. Visit the museum exhibits to learn more. The lodge is on a list of National Historic places and many of the campsites sit under a canopy of deciduous greenery.
